The other night I couldn’t sleep, something that happens from time to time. I’m a middle-aged woman, after all. We have lots to ponder.
My lack-of-sleep-problem is often related to ideas…ideas of things I want to paint, to sew, to create. So while I’m trying to stay still and pretend I’m asleep, it occurred to me that I could embark upon the year of creativity. The Year of Creativity.
Starting October 1st, I will spend a portion of each day in some creative pursuit: sketching, knitting, painting, prepping a canvas or board. If I state it publicly, that will magically make it happen! To the world, I am stating my intention. Now, it’s your responsibility to keep me accountable.
To that end, I started on this past Saturday. I was getting my clothes together to attend the Springfield Regional Arts Center’s “Flights of Fancy” awards dinner. I liked my dress, but the shoes needed some pizazz.
I like plain, black Mary Jane shoes from Pearl River Mart.
They started out like this: Then went to this: And ended up like this:
The original plan was to paint the flower shapes in greens and blues on one shoe and in reds, yellows and oranges on the other. Thankfully, I ran out of time. I like them just the way they are.
Let the creativity continue!
