This girl amazes me.
I’m a bit envious of her fearlessness and clear artistic direction. Notice her attire of pattern upon pattern. She doesn’t do what everyone else is doing. She listens to her own inner muse.
She knows what she likes to do and she’s not afraid to try new things. When others are heading east, she’ll strike out west. She works with great concentration and passion.
When I was a child and given the instruction to make a drawing, I did what everyone else did….drew a house, a flower, a stick figure with a band of blue sky overhead accompanied usually a bright yellow spiky sun in one corner. Nice. Safe.
Not this girl.
Recently, her sister June and I were learning origami. We made hats and boxes, fish and balloons. Christa took the squares of pattern and worked by herself in a corner. And she created this.
The chain of rainbow colors looped all the way across the doorframe. It cascaded down the sides. It filled the space and made us all smile.
She explores patterns, shapes, colors. Her work is abstract and lively. She fills the entire page with texture and shapes upon shapes.
No spiky suns. No houses with windows of four panes. She is all Christa. All the time.
I love her and her way of creating. I’m watching and learning.
